DAY 5 = 22.34 MILES

TOTAL MILES COMBINED = 113.72 (17.78 miles short of schedule)

TOTAL STEP COUNT = 259,773

Hello friends!  We have reached Day 5 which means we are about 1/3 of the way there. Today was a film day which caused about an hour and a half delay. It also involved a lot of extra running for film footage. Below are a couple of photos from that shoot. Naturally, this put Dennis further behind schedule but he isn’t just running, he’s also making a movie.

Thank you for your prayers concerning Dennis foot pain. He still hasn’t located the source of the pain, but said that it felt and looked better today than it did yesterday, so praise God. Although the weather is cooler, the sun is still beating down on him all day. His team got some sunscreen to prevent sunburn. He also got a blister on his left heel. It is the first blister he has ever got as a result of running. Fortunately, there are quick remedies for blisters as well.

“You’ll quit in your head long before your body fails you.” ~ Dennis

One of Dennis’ team members mentioned how rough he looked getting out of the car, but that once they all sat down for dinner, he didn’t look any different from anyone else at the table. You couldn’t tell by looking at Dennis exactly what he has been through these last five days.

“Quit now! You’re going to really hurt yourself.” “You have no business being out here.” “What do you think you’re doing?”

These are a few of the thoughts in Dennis’ head that he is battling.  That is what he has been through on the inside that wasn’t showing on the outside. He said the one thing these voices all had in common is that they were accusatory.  Recognizing where a thought or a voice in your head is coming from is half the battle. The key word here is, accusatory. Dennis recognized that tone, eliminated God as the author of that nonsense, and tossed those discouraging words out of his head.

A saying that helped free me from the voices in my own head is this: “God doesn’t talk like that.”

This run to Los Angeles is far more mental than it is physical.  I think it is poetic how much Dennis has been through in the last five days of running, not to mention the weeks of training leading up to it, yet at dinner, he looked no different than anyone else.

You never know what someone is going through or has been through at a glance.

From the Kickstarter page: “All or nothing. This project will only be funded if it reaches its goal by Thursday, March 16th, 2023 9:25am.” It’s so easy to pledge! I did it with a couple of clicks on my phone. To date, we have $5,221 pledged of $30,000. Thank you to our 17 backers! We only have 11 days left to raise the rest of the money. Help us spread the word!  We look forward to bringing PHX2LA to you in August of 2023.
