DAY 7 = 25.22 MILES

TOTAL MILES COMBINED = 164.44 (24.36 miles short of schedule)

First, let me thank all of you from the bottom of our hearts for your prayers and donations. We welcomed our 18th backer yesterday and our hearts are full. Thank you for your generosity!

How is Dennis? He had a rough day. The overall wear and tear on his body is catching up to him.  It was mostly overcast today so that helped. He does have a decent sunburn on the back of his neck and it is being treated. Some things cannot be avoided, guys. He’s doing the best he can to stay covered and stay safe. It is becoming increasingly obvious just how dangerous portions of this run are, particularly on two lane highways. However, there was a three mile section of road that was under construction which took the highway down to one lane leaving an entire lane all to himself for three miles. Thankful for the little things!

“I could see how having a partner would be beneficial to pass the time. It can get pretty monotonous out here.”

You can appreciate the desert scenery much more from a vehicle than you can as a runner.  In a car, you are driving through mountains. As a runner, you’re looking at the same blasted mountain for a bit before you finally pass it.  Dennis mentioned that Pastor Tommy’s wife Marja ran some 150 miles with him when he ran from Phoenix to Los Angeles in 1997.

Stephanie’s question: Do you think at the end of all of this, having made that run yourself, that you will have an entirely new set of questions for Pastor Tommy?

Dennis answer: Oh for sure!

My schedule and Dennis’ schedule are not compatible so this has been a challenge for me too.  I am always sleeping when he calls so I have to quickly wake up and jump into blogger mode. I struggled waking up for this call. While we talked for 23 minutes, all my brain really registered was, “You back? Okay bye.”  LOL!

From the KJV Expositor’s Study Bible: Fear you not; for I am with you: be not dismayed; for I am your God: I will strengthen you; yes, I will help you; yea, I will uphold you with the right hand of My Righteousness. (The progression in this Verse is most precious: “I am with you”; but He comes yet nearer: “I will strengthen you”; and still closer: “I will help you”; and finally, He throws His arms around His Child and says, “I will uphold you.”)

While this is spoken by the Prophet Isaiah to a certain group of people at a specific time in history, and yes, that context does matter, not only can we still gain comfort from these words, but how much more comfort can be gained knowing that we are on the other side of the Cross?  He will get us ALL through whatever we face today, tomorrow and every day after that for the rest of our lives. You don’t have to “invite” Him. He is already with you.

From the Kickstarter page: “All or nothing. This project will only be funded if it reaches its goal by Thursday, March 16th, 2023 9:25am.” It’s so easy to pledge! I did it with a couple of clicks on my phone. To date, we have $5,321 pledged of $30,000. Thank you to our 18 backers! We only have 9 days left to raise the rest of the money. Help us spread the word!  We look forward to bringing PHX2LA to you in August of 2023.
